The agreement of IBM and Sun could go beyond servers
Open source and cloud computing might be the ultimate goals of the alliance.
The purchase of Sun Microsystems by IBM could generate the creation of a competitor in servers. However, according to analysts believe this acquisition would be another major objective.
According to analysts estimate, bringing the two companies would represent an opportunity to gain a competitive advantage in the increasingly popular open source and cloud computing technologies to conquer for developers and users for its free and possibilities of participation.
Believe that IBM can improve their work through the software from Sun and use it to compete effectively with rival companies such as HP or Cisco.
Furthermore this thesis is confirmed by the success of the blue giant in the market for servers, where they require assistance. In Q4 the company was the world’s largest seller of these systems, with a market share exceeding 36%. In the case of purchase this figure would rise to 40%, with a turnover of 53 million euros.
HP currently has 29% of the market for servers, followed by Dell with 11%, reports
